The brickwork of a house is very much exposed. Driving rain, dirt, algae, freezing and thawing, wind, moisture, water and salt are just some of the things that the outermost surface is exposed to. Also, the foundation of the house is exposed to movements in the underground and is at risk of damage as well.
The most common types of damage include:
These cracks are the most common types of cracks. They may be caused by a number of things, but they often occur because of differences in the thickness of the plaster or if the plaster dries too fast. Usually, they look like fine meshes of joined cracks. The cracks can be repaired with Skalflex House Protection and/or by painting over the cracks with the two thick film paint products - Skalflex Facade Texture or Skalflex Coarse Paint.
Cracks in joints typically occur because of inadequately filled joints, the quality of the filling material or movements in the wall. Use Skalcem Reinforcing Plaster to remedy these types of damage.
Settlement cracks occur for many different reasons when the base or foundation move. It can be because of uneven load on the foundation, vibrations, settlements or faulty construction. Skalflex has developed a special reinforcing system for settlement cracks - Skalcem Reinforcing System. In case of settlement cracks, please consult a specialist.
