The Comeback of Facade Textures

16/2/2004

Skalflex is relaunching a 30-year-old facade paint that gives you elegant patterns and surface textures.

It has been universally accepted in recent years that surfaces on painted house facades should be even and smooth. However, these facades are about to be refreshed with elegant patterns and surface textures.

As it is, Skalflex A/S, located in Viborg, Denmark, is relaunching a 30-year-old and thoroughly tested facade paint. The paint is noted for its structure and consistency that gives plenty of room for exciting patterns and surface textures. The paint is being marketed under the name Skalflex Facade Texture, but was originally known as Skalflex Rough Paint/Structural Plaster when it was launched in 1973 as the first product in the Skalflex history.

Skalflex Facade Texture is an acrylic/silicate paint with excellent adhesiveness on almost any masonry or plastered surface as well as on previously painted surfaces. Experience from Danish and foreign building work has documented that this paint is extremely durable. Its adhesive and covering power may last for more than 20 years. One of the reasons behind this unique durability is that the paint is vapour permeable, meaning it allows the wall to breathe. The value of water vapour diffusion resistance, indicating the degree to which the paint prevents the wall from breathing, is only 0.7, which is just slightly higher than limestone. In comparison, conventional facade paint has a value of water vapour diffusion resistance of approx. 5.0.

The paint creates a facade with elegant patterns and textures when you are close - and it has a beautiful and natural look to it with a flat and non-reflecting surface when you look at it from a distance. At the same time, it is a so-called thick film coating, which means that it can bridge and seal various impurities such as minor cracks and crazings on the underlying surface.

Skalflex Facade Texture contains no toxic solvents. The paint comes pre-mixed from our factory and is available in 10 different colours - all matching the contemporary and traditional Danish building style. The paint is furthermore available in a rough and a fine version as well as in a variant that leaves limewashed finish. We also offer a special version for indoor use. Our products are available from all building supply stores and timber merchants as well as in select paint shops. To read more about our products, please visit www.skalflex.dk.
