Skalflex has developed a highly versatile plaster that is almost completely waterproof and can prevent moisture damage and cracking from freezing
This waterproof plaster for masonry is now a reality - offering completely new opportunities to prevent some of the former known problems of surface cracking due to freezing conditions on surfaces exposed to moisture.
Skalflex A/S, located in Viborg, has developed an almost 100% waterproof plaster by taking advantage of the latest nanotechnology. This new product is called Multi-Purpose Waterproof Plaster. It is a versatile cement-based plaster product with a unique quality: It can prevent water and moisture uptake that over time may cause surface cracking if the surface is exposed to frost.
This plaster is the perfect solution for exposed surfaces such as bases, steps, stacks, windbreaks and overhangs. For interior purposes, the plaster is excellent for water and moisture proofing of damp basement walls.
The Danish Technological Institute has tested the new Multi-Purpose Waterproof Plaster and measured the product's so-called water absorption coefficient at merely 1/80 compared to conventional plasters. This means that it is practically waterproof.
Multi-Purpose Waterproof Plaster has all the same positive qualities as conventional cement-based plasters. It is washable, has high diffusion capacity and is weatherproof. It also offers elasticity and flexibility, allowing it to adhere basically to any type of permanent and sustainable surface. Its high adhesiveness also makes it suitable as repair mortar - even on painted surfaces.
This new waterproof plaster is just as easy to work with as conventional plaster products and has all of three applications: As slurry with a brush, as a thin plaster layer and as a plaster layer of up to a thickness of 1 centimetre upon adding quartz sand. No shrinkage cracks develop during the curing process, and it leaves a flat and uneven surface, which may be painted or treated with Skalcem products.
Multi-Purpose Waterproof Plaster comes in buckets of 5 kg and is available throughout the country from building supply stores and timber merchants. Read more about this product here . Here you can also locate the nearest local distributor.
