Indoor Limewash

Vandskuring InderdørsAcrylic/Silicate-based acrylic based plaster with mineral fillers for indoor use.

  • High diffusion capacity
  • Has a limestone matt, hard-wearing and durable surface
  • Great adhesive properties
  • Adheres to most substrates, including previously painted surfaces
  • Can be tinted in light colours

SKALFLEX Limewash can be thinned with water as necessary, depending on the desired surface. Can be painted over with regular wall paint if a different colour is desired.

With SKALFLEX Limewash you can create a granular surface that resembles a limewashed wall, or you can make it look like rough plastering with heavy broom strokes. SKALFLEX Limewash has a velvety white colour that creates a sense of rustic harmony in the home.

Application

SKALFLEX Limewash is intended for indoor use and can be used as is and without priming on cleaned surfaces, such as LECA elements, render, concrete, plaster boards, cement impregnated particle boards and bricks - even if these surfaces have been painted before.
Clean contaminated surfaces with SKALFLEX Basic Cleaner.

For absorbent surfaces, such as gas concrete, Yton and Siporex elements, prime with one part SKALFLEX Beto-Lime Binder and 3 parts water, so that the drying process is retarded to allow more time for application and working of the material.

It may be necessary to prime particle boards with turpentine-soluble alkyd paint because a bloom of brown stains often appears at the surface of SKALFLEX Limewash. The stains come from the glue and  bark contaminants.

Masonry that has been painted previously with distemper or other water-soluble products should be primed with a turpentine-soluble alkyd paint as a precaution. It is not necessary to prime sawdust wallpaper previously painted with plastic paint if the wallpaper sticks properly. Caution should be taken with regular wallpaper - try a small piece and see if the wallpaper comes loose. If it does, it may be removed.

Hessian requires two treatments with SKALFLEX Limewash to avoid contraction cracks. First, use a putty knife to create a smooth surface. Let the first layer dry and then apply SKALFLEX Limewash to obtain the desired surface. Try a small piece to see if the hessian comes loose.

SKALFLEX Limewash must be stirred thoroughly before use. It can be diluted with water for a smooth limewash without deep brush strokes, if desired. For a smooth Limewash, the best method is to use a soft, wide brush to create crisscross brush strokes. For a rough plaster surface, use a course-textured brush or limer.

SKALFLEX Limewash can be applied with a structure roller and smoothed with a brush/broom, or the brush/broom can be dipped directly in the bucket. It is important to work "wet in wet", i.e. finish one wall in one working operation, otherwise visible lines may appear.
