SKALCEM 100 is a coloured, damp hardening powder paint based on cement. Skalcem 100 can be applied to any kind of mineral surface such as Leca, breezeblocks, concrete, plastered and finished walls etc. Paint and whitewash must be removed before treating with Skalcem 100.
Skalcem is weather and wash proof and needs no further treatment for many years afterwards. Skalcem 100 is waterproof but lets damp from inside out. Skalcem 100 is very suitable inside and out. Further treatment should be done with the same product or Skalflex Facade Silicate paint.
Skalcem 100 is available in nine different colours. The colours have a very natural velvety look on walls, where the plaster structure is visible underneath.

In order to prevent the paint drying out too quickly the wall must be watered thoroughly before the work is commenced. A very absorbent underlay can be pre-treated with a special primer according the factory's instructions. Mix approx. 6 litres water with 10 kg Skalcem 100. The best way of mixing is to use a whisk attachment to your drill and painting should be carried out using a roller, paintbrush or whitewash brush.
If the surface colour comes off after 1-2 days due to insufficient watering, hardening can be induced by spraying the surface with atomised water.
Do not use Skalcem 100 at temperatures below 5 °C. When using any colour except white, then cover the surface if there is a risk of rain, as lashing rain before hardening sets in can cause stained white blotches. This is especially important at temperatures below 10 °C as hardening sets in at a slower rate. Avoid working in direct sunlight. In order to avoid shade differences, use cans with the same production number (see label). Once the paint has been mixed it must be used within 2-3 hours.
Skalflex Beto-Lime Binder is an acrylic-based polymer, which gives Skalcem 100 a greater adherence. The primer enables hardening to set in even if the surface has not been pre-watered that much.
On surfaces with an uneven level of absorption, e.g. due to repairs, it is a good idea to use Beto-Lime Binder as a primer. Painting with Skalcem 100 must, however, be started before the primer is dry.
In order to enhance the adherence of Skalcem to new smooth surfaces like e.g. concrete elements, substitute 1 litre of the 6 litres of water with 1 litre Beto-Lime Binder and mix with 10 kg of the powder paint. Beto-Lime Binder can also be used together with whitewash and other cement based products.
